    The Italian Legislative Decree n. 185 dated May, 22/99, provides for the protection of consumers buying goods from a distance in the internet and paying for them with credit card (art.8) to safeguard them from unauthorized use of their cards.
    In case the credit card holder has never made the transaction charged, he may apply to the credit Institute that issued the credit card and challenge the transaction. The Institute, in turn, will require to the operator all documentation proving the correctness of the transaction and, where this is non-compliant or incomplete, may proceed to charge the amount involved to the account of the operator, subsequently reimburse said amount to the cardholder.
